Automated Storage and Retrieval System
Automated storage and retrieval system (ARS) serves for warehousing of products on pallet racks.
ARS solution is aimed at specific requirements because it operates in frozen product warehouses with temperature -20°C.
Automated storage and retrieval system has a multi-level design.
The first level is represented by the ASC (Automated storage conveyor), conveyors, barcode readers and other equipment which provide automated entry of products into and their removal from warehouses as well as transferring pallets in the rack warehouse.
The most important tasks at this level are performed by the ASC, which has for this purpose built-in modern intelligent sensors linked to the network (Profibus DP) into a contemporary concept of control implementation. The system is upgraded with modern control algorithm of the ASC, which enables automated execution of all required movements for the entry of pallets into and their removal from the warehouse as well as their transfer. Smooth operation is provided by variable speed control regarding the current position and the target. The algorithm has built-in subassemblies for obstacle detection and for reporting corresponding messages of failure of key control components to the central control system (CCS).
The second level is represented by the warehouse management system (WMS) composed of a WMS program package and a PC computer.
The main functions of this level are:
- Warehouse schematic view (warehouse plan view with numbered racks, the view of occupied and available racks, a simple review of rack contents),
- View of the ASC position and its subassemblies in the warehouse and the listing of the current phase of operation,
- View of messages on eventual standstill and the cause for it,
- View and recording of alarm statuses,
- Execution of the algorithm for the entry of pallets and their removal from the warehouse,
- Warehouse database management (MS SQL database) from which different reports are generated (for ex. stocks), orders are made for automated dispatch of goods (pallets).
The third level is represented by linking the WMS to the factory ERP business information system.
Clients’ orders are gathered and processed in the ERP system. These are transferred to the WMS where the storer reviews them, corrects them correspondingly (he removes products that are not in the warehouse) and in a defined moment he submits them to execution. This means that the ASC brings all missing pallets to the consignment racks and the order can be seen on the manual terminal with which the worker makes a consignment.
When an order is executed, data on actual products and quantities that were consigned are transferred back to the ERP system, where a delivery note for this order is also written.
